In January 2010, PDCI and Partners-Kosovo began implementing the “Transcending Vulnerability through the Women’s Economic Empowerment Project” funded by the European Commission. The WEEP is designed to increase awareness among municipal authorities and women civil society leaders of marginalized groups of the legal framework (policies, legislation, and strategies) in place to protect women’s economic rights and ensure equal gender participation in the economic sphere. It aims to build the skills and knowledge capacity of both target groups to develop and implement sustainable economic initiatives which empower women to actively participate in broader civic decision-making processes in their communities. It follows a strategic logic: educating women and officials about the legal framework that protects women’s rights and enshrines the right to participation; developing skills to facilitate participatory processes; and cultivating practical management skills to develop projects that address the roots of poor development Recent activities: Gender-sensitive Baseline Assessment to determine socio-economic needs and priorities of target groups Final Report integrating Baseline Assessment findings and providing recommendations for project design Training of trainers for women participants on legal framework for women's socio-economic rights, cooperative planning methodology and project management Finalization of outreach brochures, media press release and other information material
